Very varying reviews for Casa Mia Grande. Our experience was of offhand slightly severe staff. I don't expect to be told to " wait a minute" three times during an evening - when wanting to order drinks at the very beginning of the evening ( no-one else in the bar and staff chatting at the desk ); when wanting to order side dishes and when trying to attract someone's attention in a by now empty restaurant to ask for some milk with my coffee. Perhaps the smiling friendly staff are only in evidence when the owner is on the premises.

It is all very well having to pay a deposit when booking, but very embarrassing in a party to have to question why the deposit was not subtracted from the final bill.

There is a hard sell on wine for the table and selection of vegetables, both of which bump up the price.

In all, pretty average food with no subtlety of flavour, at high prices.

Went there on a Monday night using a Hi- life card. Only ourselves and 4 other diners were there.

I ordered a bottle of house white, the waiter said that this was not a good idea and that I should order a different one instead costing £20, I declined his upgrade offer and stuck to the house wine at pennys under £15, good job I was not on a first date.

Starters of garlic mushrooms and calamares were quite nice, no complaints there other than the large restaurant was empty and lacked aptmoshere and I was feeling slighty guilty for feeding the wife cheap plonk.

For mains I ordered rib eys steak at £15 and the wife tuna steak. In fairness the tuna steak was nice, perfectly cooked and a fair size. My steak was terrible, it was small , ultra thin, greasy, small and not at all what I was expecting. The chips were frozen and not dissimilar to the ones at fast food chains except those are not as overcooked.

When the bill came they had added 10% service not to the actual amount (£38)but to the amount before discounts, so the service charge was £5.80 which I refused to pay.

Not happy at all, perhaps this explains why we where the only ones there. Plenty of nicer restaurants nearby so no need to go here.
